Employment (Full time)
Summer 08 – Present – Selex SI(System Integration) Media Developer
My role within this company is to create 3D graphics for the use on client’s interactive 3D training software. This has included software used in the military, public and defence sectors. Therefore, I am security cleared to a ‘Restricted’ level and this has enabled me to work on a number of interesting projects.
This includes:
Nimrod’s training system - To enable better maintenance of the aircraft engine bays through the use of 3D renders and animations.
Infection Control – Using the open source games engine DX studio for a hospital based training simulation. This required much R&D, as well as low poly modeling in game animation and was part of Selex’s ‘serious games’ initiative.
Terrain Database – Creating low poly entities to populate the visual database, once scenarios have been programmed, to train UAV pilots. These included vehicles, walls and some custom made buildings.
Camera and on foot surveillance training – Using 3D animations to visualize ‘potentially threatening’ situations in a built up area. One such scenario ends in an exciting 3D car chase.
Missile Command Visualization – Visualizing the command, communication and action of a missile in a ‘real time’ situation. Much character and path animation was completed on this project.
Instructor Courseware - The creation and deployment of key 3D renders to aid instructors to teach military technicians how to operate and maintain a new technology within the defence sector.
As mentioned, I am capable of working on my own initiative. However, I am part of an 8 person graphics and simulation team. I am experienced in meeting exacting deadlines and ensuring the maintenance of a high standard of work. I communicate with fellow team members on regular basis in person and via video conferencing. I am also in close contact with the clients we support. I enjoy all aspects of my position with Selex and in 2009 was trained by Presages at their UK headquarters on their 3D database software creation tool ‘Creator’. I have traveled to our Bristol office for liaison with their team and have travelled to meet clients ‘on site’.
Personal Development Work
Summer 06 – Present - Soon after starting university, I realized my skills could be put to use on freelance projects, offering my 3D modeling and animation skills to small companies and individuals. From this work I have built up a portfolio of media based projects and continue to search for new business in my free time. This is reflected within my website portfolio under the tab ‘freelance work’.
Work Experience
2004 – 2008 - Waitrose, Welwyn Garden City
10-7 Saturday only, plus fill in time during holidays and peaks.

During this time, I completed cash register training, to work as required on check-outs and also fresh produce section. This position entailed working closely with customers as to their specific and often exacting requirements when ordering fresh meat and fish. In view of this face to face customer service role, my communication skills were tested and often complimented on.
Summer 2007 - I worked at Xerox as a multimedia developer creating online banners and editing banners for print projects.
Summer 2006 - I worked as a ‘runner’ at a small, but successful London film company: Crossroad Films, Notting Hill. During this time, I gained valuable `shoot ‘ experience and a useful insight into the music video business.
Additional Work – 2002 -2004 - I also worked at Xerox for 2 months in the Test Audit Department, during the summer of 2005, prior to starting at the University of Hertfordshire. This job entailed testing document processors, verifying the results and working as part of a team. It demanded a high level of accuracy in recording data and good communication skills when verbally delivering the information.
